The Ministry of National Defense issues a press release explaining media reports of "building armored carports for solar panels" (January 22, 2024)

Press release of the Ministry of National Defense

Time: January 22, 2024 at 11:10

In response to media reports of "building armored carports for solar panels" and others, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (22nd) that it will work with the policies of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and handle commissioned contracts for tender-leasing solar photovoltaic equipment under the premise that it will not affect national defense security and combat readiness training. Besides, photovoltaic panels are not installed at main battle equipment bunkers nor important or confidential sites.

The MND emphasized that the Armed Forces would always prioritize combat readiness training under national defense policy, and decentralize the deployment of personnel and equipment as its basic requirements. Each and every type of armored vehicle is equipped with a fixed bunker when they are not in use. Steel sheds being erected are mainly used for multiple purposes, including military training on rainy or sunny days, and vehicle suspension and maintenance, not "concentrated parking of armored vehicles." As viewed, such media reports are not true.
